Sammy’s Country Store in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana restocks Wednesday morning as residents wait for Hurricane Isaac to makes its way to the Acadiana Region of southwest Louisiana. Convenience stores serve customers as long as possible. They are often the last places to shut down during these situations.
Hurricane Isaac is pounding eastern Louisiana right now. Residents in the southwest portion of the state are watching and waiting for the storm. Many of the large stores in the area have closed. Local convenience stores remain open at this time. Most are out of fuel, but they are still selling water, batteries and liquor. One manager explains customers want alcohol so they can “relax and ride out the storm.” That’s the typical Cajun spirit, hunker down, cook and a have a toddy.
This morning, Sammy’s Country Store in Vermilion Parish was restocking for the pre-storm needs as well as the post-storm necessities.
Isaac is a large, slow moving storm, 400 miles wide. Wind and rain could pound the area for more than 12 hours.
