Are you looking for a quiet place to sneak off too, with an emphasis on “quiet?”
L’Banco Albergo in Lake Arthur, LA is a great destination to consider. Lisa, the manager shared some history and gave me a great tour yesterday. Mike & Shawna Palermo purchased the old Jeff Davis Bank building and turned it into a quaint bed & breakfast. The old vault stores a nice selection of reasonably priced wine. The rooms are spacious with refrigerators, microwaves, recliners and nice size bathrooms.
Now I know, when traveling, one hopefully doesn’t spend much time in the bathroom. You’ll find big showers and a good amount of space to put on make-up. I spend time and effort putting on make-up. Do you think I look this amazing on my own? You won’t confuse the bathrooms for a closet. I hate it when that happens.
The town has some interesting history. Teddy Roosevelt used to come down here to hunt and country singer Doug Kershaw is from this area.
I once had a job where I did year-end reports. I would leave town, rent a hotel room and tackle the task. L’Banca Albergo is a perfect destination for this kind of solitude. I can see working undisturbed in one of the beautifully decorated rooms.
When it comes to food, two of my favorite places are located here. Sugar Chic Cake Company is a great bakery. I once stopped and spent about $30 on pastries. I told Voinche we’d try them. I was compelled to eat all of them. They were simply too good. The Regatta has great seafood and a unique atmosphere. If I wanted, I could land my seaplane on the lake, tie up to the restaurant and then dine over Lake Arthur. The only thing that precludes me from this is my lack of a seaplane, a paralyzing fear of flying and of course, I can’t fly a plane.
Lake Arthur is off the beaten path. It’s about ten miles south of Interstate 10 at Exit 65. L’Banca Albergo offers unique lodging. If you couple that with evening of great seafood over the lake and then breakfast at Sugar Chic Cake Company, where everything is baked from scratch, you’ll have a fine weekend getaway.

Cindy, you are so kind. You and Beau should check this out for a quick getaway for a night. You can even get a room with the old drive-thru window. You guys can dine at the Regatta on the lake and then have breakfast the next morning at Sugar Chic Cake Co. Yummy cinnamon rolls.
